The
Practice Leader will have leadership
responsibility for a research team dedicated to understanding the strategic
approaches large organizations are taking, and should take, around data and
analytics.





The
research will address shared challenges that are deemed the most important and
span day-to-day roadblocks as well as long-term strategic objectives facing
senior-most leaders in this area and their teams at Fortune 2000 companies. The
research team provides these leaders with diagnostics and benchmarking,
research insights, and tools to optimize their function and performance. These
solutions are rooted in real practices that are producing verified results in
real companies.





The Practice Leader is responsible for understanding strategic
issues leaders are facing, as well as the support they are
receiving from competitors and other Gartner products. The Practice Leader will
use this understanding to direct the
research team, adapt research topics, product features, and market-facing
messaging to ensure optimal positioning and differentiation in the marketplace
and commercial success.


Key
Responsibilities





+ Own
the strategic direction of the product by understanding market trends and
engaging with data and analytics leaders to craft compelling research,
insights, tools, experiences, and events


+ Be
an active leader to a research team that will be leveraging quantitative and
qualitative research to produce ground-breaking insights


+ Be
a creative thought leader to create key differentiators for this research in an
increasingly crowded thought leadership space


+ Partner
with Sales, Advisory, and Marketing teams to support outreach, new business
generation, and positioning of our research


+ Present
research and insights at internal and external events and conferences


+ Provide
strategic advice to data and analytics leaders across the globe


+ Partner
with the Gartner PR team for interviews with top media outlets


+ Serve
as the primary talent manager for the product teams by selecting, coaching, and
developing direct reports and more junior staff





Qualifications





+ Bachelor's
degree required, MBA or other advanced degree desired


+ Minimum
of 8 years of leadership experience, preferably in research, advisory, management
consulting, or related businesses


+ High-level
knowledge of IT, data management, BI, etc. issues is preferred, with the
ability to build a deep understanding of Gartner's product offerings and
research in these areas


+ Superior
analytical skills, as demonstrated by a track record of thought leadership and
problem solving activities, preferably within a consulting and/or research
environment


+ Excellent
oral communications, writing and presentation skills, and a deep interest in
developing insights and pragmatic research solutions for top executives
grappling with strategic decisions and other business issues


+ Demonstrated
ability to teach, including technical ideas, and to engage executive-level
clients


+ Leadership
mindset: the ability to inspire a team to achieve great things by creating and
communicating a vision for the future


+ Consistently
uses Gartner business goals and market realities to make resource allocation
decisions in the face of uncertainty


+ Ability
to identify and select team members who deliver both strong individual and team
performance


+ Demonstrated
experience structuring, guiding, and coordinating the efforts of direct reports
and other team members to achieve business goals


+ Ability
to translate overall strategies, objectives, and assignments into concrete,
actionable plans. Takes into account competing and changing priorities,
resources, and time demands to produce plans that are realistic and achievable


+ Willingness
to travel, domestically as well as internationally, 10-15%
