Public Affairs Director

The Public Affairs Director will develop andexecute integrated campaigns that support advocacy and generally assist in amplifying Cigna's vision for meaningful and sustainable public policies to all audiences, with a particular focus on policymakers and health care stakeholders. As a member of the Public Policy and Government Affairs team, the candidate will partner closely with a broad range of internal partners throughout the organization.

You will operate in a dynamic, deadline driven environment, as well as handle multiple projects at once. This will include working with the lobbying and policy teams to distill legislation and regulatory policy and issues, synthesizing for internal and external audiences, and developing materials to support public responses or rollouts. This position will have primary responsibility for developing messages that articulate Cigna's public policy vision and amplifying the company's policy goals. This position will also work closely with the advocacy and policy teams to identify and cultivate third-party support and coalitions of like-minded stakeholders to support priority business lines.

The candidate should have extensive network in government and/or policy advocacy environments, possess exceptional strategic planning skills, excellent written and oral communications, with an emphasis on the ability to craft advocacy documents and simplify technical concepts to diverse audiences. Strong preference is given to candidates with experience working on an integrated advocacy campaign that included global, U.S. state, U.S. federal and strategic message development.

+ Identifying assets and strategies to advance public policy and advocacy position;ensure alignment and deliver maximum value to external partners.
+ Advancing and integrating government and public affairs efforts with other corporate endeavors.
+ Understanding the legislative and regulatory processes and leveraging existing corporate channels to support the company's public policy goals.
+ Developing and distributing external positioning, announcements, and other materials.
+ Establishing strategies to strengthen relationships with policy organizations and audiences.
+ Quickly learning and staying abreast on internal dynamics, positions, and messaging, along with the relevant external environment.


+ 10 years of experience that includes working with communications or public affairs in a trade association or corporation and/or experience in a communications role in a Congressional office or advocacy/political environment.
+ Demonstrated successes in development and execution of strategic campaigns
+ Superior communication (verbal and written) skills
+ Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, as needed, per business needs.
+ Ability to navigate matrix environment
