Research Assistant Intern
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the leading behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant Intern to join our Professional Services team, focusing on projects related to youth and youth-serving organizations. This position is based in our Washington, DC, or Rockville, MD, office.

o Researching and drafting web content for youth and youth-serving organizations. Examples include creating:

o Profiles highlighting organizations that effectively engage young people using a positive youth development approach

o Summaries of topics of interest to youth and adults who work with youth

o "Evergreen" content (e.g., images, editorial calendar), including blogs and social media posts that educate youth while engaging and encouraging them in making a difference in their personal lives and in the world around them

o Researching, recommending, and implementing improvements to project websites and related social media. Examples include:

o Identifying and testing new tools and strategies for engaging young people via social media platforms

o Reviewing web analytics data to identify opportunities to better serve youth and youth-serving organizations online

o Creating and testing new content types for the web and social media, including building out prototypes of content and conducting usability tests on different content types (content types may include video, photo, text-based, or other ideas)


o Currently seeking a Bachelor's or Master's degree in such fields as psychology, sociology, communication, public policy, public health, health promotion, or other social science related fields. Focus in youth development a plus.

o Strong social media content and marketing skills on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

o Experience developing and implementing social media, digital communication strategy, and writing substantive content for the web. Prior web content writing experience strongly preferred.

o Experience communicating research to practitioners in writing a plus.

o Strong writing and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills

o Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work.

o Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, database software), Google Docs, and other online collaborative tools. Experience with photo-editing and development software such as Photoshop or Canva a plus.

o Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

o Ability to work with a virtual team
